Metro Students: An important vote is coming!

Folks,
As you may or may not be aware, part of the Auraria Campus Master Plan includes the centralization of the three schools (Metro, CCD, CUD) into neighborhoods.  Metro’s neighborhood is the parking lot next to the Tivoli (north of the old parking garage).  The first building is in the design process and is expected to cost around $52 million, with approximately $10 million in back-fill renovation of vacated space.  The first building is being designed as a “one stop shop” for student needs, housing nearly all student support services plus administration, the First Year Success program, classrooms, lounges (which will be designed with student input), etc.

Please visit the Metro State is Rising website at http://MetroStateRising.com for more information.  There are links for the Fact Sheet and Neighborhood Master Plan on the right side of the screen.

MOST IMPORTANTLY:  This first building will be payed for with an increase of student fees.  This increase can only be passed by student vote.  Please visit the website and vote in favor of the building.  There is a very informative FAQ page, and it highlights the fact that even after the proposed fee increase, Metro is still the best deal in the state!

The SGA elections happen on April 13-17, and students will receive an email to their mscd.edu account asking for their vote on this issue.  Please look for this email!

I’d be happy to answer any questions,
Dr. Ball

How i made Our Favicon

October 13th, 2007 | Category: Site Development

Ok, let start with what is a favicon. A favicon is the graphic icon that loads up next to the web address. Many sites you bookmark often have an icon. For example WellsFargo has a WF, MSCD has some weird dotting swirl, Metro Chem Club has a chiral carbon atom!

First, I started by searching Google for pics of atoms. Once, I found the ideal picture I downloaded it to an easily accessible location. I use an open source image manipulation program known Gimp, but Photoshop might work for Window users. Opening the pic in Gimp and scaling the image to be square before saving it as ppm file (ie. 8X8 pixels) enables you to have a small square icon that will fit next to the web address. If your image manipulation program allows “.ico” files, it would be easiest to save it as such allowing you to skip the next few steps. Netpbm was the program I used to convert formats before uploading the favicon to the host server. With the proper plugins running in the Content Management System CMS, favicon head in this case, I was able to input the favicon’s location, and PRESTO!! Favicon on our web address.
